About Me
Hi
I’m an Electrical Engineering student at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. I will have achieved a BSc Eng. (Elec) by 2011, after which I’ll start work at Fluor Corp or consider postgraduate studies.
I write about what I find interesting, which includes business (more specifically the stock market), physics, math, random projects of mine (like the potato canon), and almost anything I believe will be of interest to my readers.
I enjoy reading, listening to music, solving Rubik’s cubes and of course, spending time with my beautiful girlfriend, Juané. You’ll read about all these things in my blog.
Business has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve owned businesses from the age of 13. Currently I’m looking at investing on the stockmarket, in a Grahamian (Benjamin Graham) and Warren Buffett style. I believe the current declines in the JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange) can be exploited to the advantage of the long-term investor, since nothing has inherently changed in many of the businesses. My first business was competition to the primary school tuck shop (which was shut down by the tuck shop owner), and since I’ve baked rusks, owned vending machines and imported OCZ technology from the UK.
I find my studies very interesting and I’ve enjoyed vacation work as an Electrical Engineer. This gives me confidence in my career choice, I’m sure I’ll enjoy my day to day work.
As for this blog, I’m not sure why I started it. Partly to showcase my potato canon I guess, but I think I have some opinions and insights that are worth reading about.
Feel free to comment on anything, or request my opinion about something.
Eric

Hi Eric,
Great results there, especially on the Physics!!!
The Rubik’s cube is a very interesting thing. Last did that like 25 years ago, just before high school.
Actually saw a guy on the airplane struggle with one for about a full hour without getting anywhere. Eventually got so fustrated with him I asked to have a go myself while on the bus. Got 2 levels done before we had to get off.
Was interesting to note how quick the movements came back after so long.
Normally took me like 10 minutes to do just the last layer, so here is to your 40 seconds!!!
I studied at UCT as well. 1990
Are you staying at Leo Marquard or Smuts. I forgot the others.
Eric, keep posting your semester scores because everyone on the internet loves a braggart.
